Enhancing global logistics and expanding business investments in the upstream and midstream areas of the petrochemicals business

In the Basic Chemicals Business Unit, we mainly undertake B-to-B business centered around the petrochemicals product chain, and are pursuing a two-pronged strategy combining global logistics and business investments. Our core businesses range from upstream areas, such as the basic raw materials associated with petrochemicals, chlor-alkali and gas chemicals, to mid-stream product categories, such as derivatives. We aim to enhance our presence in the petrochemical and commodity-type resin, chlor-alkali and methanol business areas.

Developing global logistics business leveraging sophisticated logistical services

We are developing our logistics business on a global basis at the upstream and mid-stream levels, underpinned by our network of strategic partnerships and customer relationships. A core activity is the provision of sophisticated logistical services based on the use of chemical tankers and tanks. We are building our presence on a global scale by providing sophisticated services such as location swaps (used to rationalize logistics by shipping products from sites near to users) and time swaps (implemented by asking other manufacturers to ship products during periods when we are unable to meet demand).

Pursuing business investments based on marketing network business infrastructure

Amid the global structural reform and business reorganization underway in the petrochemicals industry, we are also conducting manufacturing business in cost-competitive overseas locations, supported by the business infrastructure we have developed in the logistics business. Using the expertise gained from the International Methanol Company (IMC) in Saudi Arabia, the Shark Bay and Onslow salt fields in Australia and others, we also intend to engage actively in making new business investments.
